What I still need

Filed under: Uncategorized — by katrinar @ 12:41 am

I still need…

  • to gather and sort out what pictures of the children that I want to use
  • come up with exactly what I want to say in my first slide to introduce my topic and how I want to end it.
  • I have everything in the middle undercontroll
  • I still have to decide if i want to play music or if i dont.  I think it would be better not to because it would symbolize how kids with autism are sensitive to music and the music might take away from it.
  • I also have to record some of my voice overs
  • I still need to decide how i want it to flow.  If i want it to fade in and out and how fast i want it to go
  • I have all my video clips done though because i did them this weekend.

  1. The no music thing I think plays into your idea well, like you had mentioned. Maybe in some way, you could say why there’s no music because I don’t think the audience would catch on that kids with autism are sensitive to music. Also, you said in class that the puzzle piece was a symbol for autism, perhaps you could create some sort of flow that results in the formation of a big puzzle. The children with autism (from pictures/ video clips) are the fitting pieces that could represent your life and what they mean to you.

  2. I definitely think that a more silent film would make more of a statement in your case. I think I said this on during the storyboard exercise today. I think that because your story is on autism that it would be better to have no music, like you said because kinds with autism are sensative to it. But also I think that the silent film will have a great effect on the audience because they will sense the seriousness of the story becacuse there is nothing in the background(sound) to take away from the seriousness of your story. Good job so far can’t wait to see the final project!

  3. I think the idea of having no music is good, but many viewers wouldn’t understand this unless you explained it. I also think the idea you had in class of the puzzle is great! Maybe you could do more with that. I would like to see the puzzle because you might be able to do more with that. I also think the ending will be critical; how to you plan on tying it all together so it relates to you and how the kids have changed your life? I think text boxes will be great for you- just make sure the language is precise and to the point. I cannot wait to see your live footage and how it all comes together!! Seems like you have it under control. :-)

  4. Katrina—picking up on two of the ideas above: your point about music is good, and I think there’s probably a way to explain that in the film. Chelsea’s point about the puzzle is good too—it’s a significant symbol that is attached to your topic, but it’s also a good metaphor (like hands in the Price essay). I’d suggest that you push it further—find a jigsaw puzzle, or a piece of one, and think about using that image a couple of times in your film.

Also, if the middle of your film is going to consist of still shots of children, you are indeed going to need to think about editing carefully, particularly if you’re going to have a voiceover—the duration of the pictures will have to match that of the voiceover.

  5. Katrina–
It sounds like it’s time to begin drafting the text you want to use–both in terms of textboxes (which are shorter) and voice-overs that you plan on recording. This means thinking carefully about where language adds an important layer to your visuals and what that language says.
